Places of Interest

  • Downhill skiing and snowboarding is a short drive away at Sun Peaks Resort, 45 minutes from downtown Kamloops, or Harper Mountain, 20 minutes out of town. Sun Peaks also offers activities such as their annual Blossom Festival, golfing and horseback riding in the off-season. From Kamloops it is a 25-minute drive to Stake Lake with 150 km of groomed cross-country ski trails.


  • The Spirit of Kamloops Railtour is a 7 mile/11 km round trip on the CN Okanagan Subdivision mile 3.5 to 0.0 that takes 1 hour and 10 mins to complete from the time of departure until return. Passengers have the option of riding in custom designed open-air "Hayrack" cars or reliving the past of 1930 heritage coach "Pioneer Park".


  • The Farmer's Market runs June to the end of August and is a great way to meet local residents. Fresh, locally grown organic produce, flowers, baked goods, and other products are available twice weekly. The market runs downtown Wednesday mornings between 4th and 5th Avenue on Victoria Street, and Saturday mornings on St. Paul between 1st and 2nd Avenue. Scheduled performers and displays add to the local flavour.


  • Rivers Trail is a scenic and enjoyable way to see Kamloops. Take as short or as long a walk as you like (15.2 Km).


  • It may just be your lucky day at the Lake City Casino, located one block from The Hotel.


  • Hot Night in the City is an annual show and shine event for specialty cars. Owners of everything from restored classics, to 'suped-up' muscle cars, to custom-built automobiles, come from far and wide to showcase their pride-and-joy in downtown Kamloops every summer.


  • The Kamloopa PowWow is an annual native cultural event hosted by the local Scwepemc Indian band in August. Native costume and dance are featured.


  • Five minutes from the hotel, the Secwepemc Museum & Heritage Park has indoor and outdoor Native museum exhibitions.


  • With more than a thousand lakes, the Thompson-Nicola region of BC lives up to its reputation of being one of the best freshwater fly-fishing destinations in the world.


  • Riverside Park is a 10 minute walks from the Thompson Hotel and hosts many annual events such as Music in the Park, Canada day festivities, Art in the Park, etc. Music in the Park is a free event showcasing local and national performers held nightly at 7pm during the summer months. The Park facilities include a sandy beach, water park, change rooms, washrooms, tennis courts, and several children's playground areas.


  • The BC Wildlife Park, a 20 minute drive from The Hotel, offers tours and many special events. Take a train ride or walk around the park to view a wide variety of animals.
