A reasonable Paris hotel

Recommendation:  by KEVIN TAYLOR

Suitable for: Business, Leisure

The Best Western Sydney Opera (chosen because of name and location) was a gem compared to hotels used in other visits to Paris. Rooms were the usual size and the elevator a relocated telephone booth (2 persons max) but everything worked.

The staff were friendly and breakfast more than adequate. The directions to find the hotel were accurate and there were no problems with the reservation or indeed any other service of the hotel.

I would happily use this hotel again.

My expectations of a Best Western Hotel were not met and largely it seemed to only to be a badge to attaract customers from abroad and without meaning to the staff. Perhaps this is a problem of rapid expansion of the chain and no training/ service quality requirements (i.e. no evidence along the lines that the customer's expectations should not only be met but preferably exceeded and that a room change over would be done pleasantly, perhaps even apologetically, and certainly so that no grudge then appears to be carried forward by the staff, perhaps with a complimentary note or at least a polite comment from the hotelier or his manager). At first the hotel gave us the smallest possible room (a dingy cell really)as they said that no other rooms are available with a double bed. Despite our request, this was in the smoking section of the hotel and the change over to. We immediately refused to accept the room and with undue grumbling (e.g., I had to say we'd go elsewhere if nec.)from the receptionist were given a slightly larger and more pelasant room but with twin beds.

there were work in progress all day long. Too noise from early in the morning to late in the afternoon. Such works should be made when the hotel is closed!
