Not what you're looking for?

Darlinghurst - Darlinghurst (or Darlo as it is locally known) is an inner-city suburb that is located east of Sydney's Central Business District (CBD). It was named in honour of Elizabeth Darling, the popular wife of Governor Ralph Darling with the 'hurst' referring to wooded area in old English. From its rather unsavoury beginning as a slum area and notorious for its 'red-light activities', Darlinghurst is now a modern, cosmopolitan suburb that is home to many trendy residential areas and apartments, and a popular nightlife destination.

The heart of the excitement centres on Oxford Street where you can find many upscale restaurants and cafes, and nightclubs that earned it the title of Sydney's 'nightclub strip'. Visitors can partake in many daytime activities such as visiting the Australian Museum and the Sydney Jewish Museum. There are also several historical buildings worth checking out such as the Darlinghurst Court House, Darlinghurst Gaol and the Darlinghurst Fire Station that was built in 1912. For a pleasurable dining experience, head on to Stanley Street or 'Little Italy' where you can find restaurants serving not only Italian cuisines, but Chinese, Western and other types of food as well.
