I recently had the opportunity to spend 4 nights at the Shaftesbury Heritage Hyde Park in London England. The hotel is very nice and exceeded my expectations, the room was nicely appointed, the decor was new and modern. The room was small compared to North American standards but that is Europe. The hotel was nicely situated, close to major bus routes and underground subway stations. The hotel is slightly northwest of the main hussle and bussle of the city centres, but a very short bus ride or subway train and you are right in the thick of things. The staff were courteous but I really didn't have the need to interact with them a great deal, I mainly used the hotel to have a peaceful night sleep after a long day of site seeing. If you are looking for a quite, clean, safe place to stay while in London visiting or site seeing, and you don't want to spend a fortune, this is the place.

An imposing hotel of character in the reception, lounge and bar areas, but the accommodation area is a bit of a "rabbit warren" of inadequately sign-posted corridors. The "lift logic" also needs some attention, e.g. press button 9 to reach the 8th floor, button 2 to reach the ground floor and 1 to reach the breakfast room in the basement !

Otherwise, the staff were generally friendly, although not a single English person to be seen anywhere !

The hotel is conveniently located close to shopping, transport and interesting places to visit. Our room was a small one but no doubt there were larger rooms available. We were quite comfortable and the tariff was moderate compared to other hotlels we have stayed in at london. Would stay there again.

The room was small, but that is typical of European hotel rooms. It was clean, comfortable and the service was outstanding. The location was also perfect. Internet was down few times and IT perosn was not available to fix it ASAP . One night I had to go out of the hotel to look for an internet cafe where I could work with my Lap Top . House Keeping department very poor standard

This hotel offered different standards of room at different rates. I am not convinced that there is any distinction when the rooms are allocated.

small for two people but still very well presented and comfortable and everything is very modern.

i had a room which was too cold at night and the other room we had extremely hot all day and night. th erooms were tiny with hardly any room for suitcases

Quiet, personal, friendly staff, lovely recepation, both the room and the staff! Will definitely return soon (visiting London 3-4 times a year and this is the best hotel in this category so far!). Exceptionally clean, both surfaces and curtains. Very well kept up decor, no scratches or flaky paint. Lovely bathroom, but too little water pressure (8th floor. Would love some bisquits with the tea/coffee equipment next time :-)

very pleased with the hotel but not with the website as hotel had no knowledge of our reservation, however although not their fault they sorted out a room for us very quickly and were very pleasant and efficient.

See above comment. The faciltiy and ambience categories get rated fair because of the problems we had. There were two problems we had at the hotel. First, they put us in a below street level room. The hallway was hot, and on our last night we lost air conditioning. We had to go to another hotel. Second, our room was next to the fire doors that had no padding to stop the door from banging very loudly. In the middle of the night, off and on, you would be awakened with the loud banging.

The stairway and lift areas in the hotel was very shabby. I had originally booked into a sister hotel on Hyde Park but was e-mailed only a week before to say that completion of the hotel was delayed, so was a bit disappointed not to stay in a newly refurbished hotel.
