A Warm "Welcome"

I would like to commend the young man who greeted me at the door of the hotel and carried my suitcase to the reception area. His warm, "welcome" set the tone for a most enjoyable few days. The staff at the reception consolidated the welcome and were always very warm, friendly and obliging. I found the location of the hotel, delightful. I was sorry that I was there for business reasons as I would have loved to explore the immediate surrounds. The hotel is obviously in a lovely place with a distinct character. I look forward to visiting it at my leisure, in the future.

Good value for what we required
Our stay at Mercure Welcome Melbourne Hotel was what we expected, for the time spent on our holiday. Staff were excellent, friendly and informative. With my wife having Fibromyalgia Syndrome, the advantage of having David Jones, Myers, and Bourke St Mall, almost on the doorstep, helped us tremendously, for she could not walk very far, and had to rest often. Tram stop outside the main entrance made travelling around the city easy. Small cafe's an the vicinity also helped, as did the convenience of Tour Boooking agency across the road,in Dick Smith's Mall. Short walk to Church also handy. Breakfast was very good. We had a disappointing meal for dinner at the same restaurant as served breakfast. A plate of Fish and Chips' with Tartare sauce, was not that we expected. The one piece of fish was served with an enormous Bowl of chips, which, would have have catered for a family of four! At $28.00 each it was the most expensive meal of fish and chips we have every experienced. We wanted to have a dinner at the restuarant of the Grand Mercure on the Sunday, but the premises were closed for the week-end. We ended up dining out! Otherwise fine. We enjoyed our stay. AJO.
Convenience of location was the main reason for our brief visit for a concert at Melbourne Arts Centre - a comfortable walk away, so no transport problems, although public transport was close and convenient if required. Room was basic but adequate and answered our needs - clean, comfortable bed and clean efficient bathroom.
Mercure Welcome review
We have stayed in this hotel previously and find its central locality most convenient to our needs. The room was serviced satisfactorily and was clean and quiet. I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to anyone who is intending to stay in central Melbourne and she we return to the city we will look to stay ther again. My only concern is that the room rate for the weekend of the Australian Grand Prix was almost double that of the rate available at other times and since it is the same room with the same service, this excess profiteering, while to be expected in a present day commercial enterprise, is nevertheless disappointing.
My son and I only stayed for one night as we were en route to Adelaide to see my daughter and family. However for the one night we were at the hotel we found the staff to be extremely helpful and courteous. We were a little late arriving but we enjoyed our meal even though the staff must have been getting ready to close the restaurant. I am not likely to return to Adelaide but would have no hesitation in passing your name on to friends who were looking for accommodation in Melbourne.
Mercure Hotel Welcome Melbourne
first Visit to Melbourne
Melbourne - a very under rated City after visiting Sydney. A mediocre Hotel in a good position to get around and see Melbourne centre with little difficulty. Plenty of good cheap eating places abound in the area. May have picked the wrong type of room - a twin , double room worth paying the extra.
