Location was clearly the prime motivation to stay here. Breakfast is far too limited and controlled - basically no food. Parking and how to enter the hotel from a car should be explained before arrival.

The best location

Recommendation:  by Gorm Harste

Suitable for: Business, Leisure, Romance, Singles, Couples

I have stayed at several of those big business-lot-of-noise-from-air-condition-hotels in Montreal. Since my employer pays for the hotel, I only look for the quality, and ok the rooms are fairly small, but my room had a balcon on the street with a marvellous view (chairs on the balcon would be welcome). I prefer a little lively noice from the street than from an air condition machine that makes you feel that you sleep on a ferry boat. The street of St. Denis is simply the most charming street in Montreal, the better restaurants are up the road. The breakfast was poor but anyway just opposite you find a really nice breakfast café. The hotel was clean in all dimensions of that word and the staff very friendly. Can especially be recommended for university personel.

Rooms of the price you reserved are not available.

Then I was asked to walk about 300 meters with my carry-on luggage close to midnight, to find another hotel from same owners because they had no more rooms of the price I reserved. The hotel that I finally stayed in was comfortable, I asked to change my room for a non-smoking room which the receptionist did, I would repeat the experience.

Everything you need on St denis

Recommendation:  by Michael Stainton

Suitable for: Leisure, Singles, Couples

Hotel Quartier Latin is basic but has everything you need for a great location and good sleep at the heart of the action in Montreal. However, I think they should cut that "great city view" line. The view was the bus terminal parking lot but the location was indeed great. The small rooms were clean and well supplied with towels and bathroom necessities, no extras like a beer fridge but there is TV and telephone. The staff were very nice, lent us a tea kettle to boil water. Parking (extra $7) is ideal - just out the back door in the new and secure underground parkade of the Bibliotheque Nationale. Breakfasts were basic but enough - coffee, orange juice and big big muffins that kept you going for the whole morning. One day we kept the muffins for lunch and went for delicious crepes at the reasonably priced creperie immediately beneath the hotel entrance.

Location was great - a block from the heart of the metro system, and all those bars and restos on St Denis. Also 2 blocks from the central bus terminal. Definitely would recommend it to anyone on a budget like we were and who believes that when you travel you should spend your money on food and not sleeping quarters.
