Overall our family satisfied with all the facilities and enjoyed staying in Park Royal.

What I like most about this hotel is its Buffet Breakfast. The food is tasty and they serve fresh fruit juices prepared there and then.

I had stayed in this hotel a couple of years ago and found it to be delightful. I was determined to stay there again the next time I returned to Penang. However, my recent stay there (in August) left me feeling slightly disappointed.

1st disappointment: Late Room, Wrong Room
We arrived at around 8am in the morning, thinking we would be able to check in to our room as we have made our reservation much earlier. We were not given so much as a "we'll look into it" before being despatched to entertain ourselves and had to wait for nearly 2.5 hours for our room. We had been travelling the whole night and were looking forward to freshen up to begin our long-awaited holiday. I felt the least they could do was offer us a hot towel & a drink. I was after all paying RM460 a night for the room. The room we finally got was lovely (A grand deluxe with private garden) but it wasn't wat we asked for, an ocean view deluxe. As we were too tired (and upset) to argue, we jes stayed put.

2nd disappintment: Room Svc Menu
The prices for room services are astronomical and ridiculous. RM77 for rack of lamb??! All u have to do is stroll down to a nearby steakhouse to get it for 1/2 the price.

3rd disappointment: Poorly trained staff
If you are going to have an international hotel with an international clientele, you should have staff who can speak and understand English well or the very least smile when asked a question. It was torture trying to speak to the reception staff sometimes, they jes look clueless, busy talking with each other or frowning at guests because they didnt understand.

4th disappointment: Choice of car rental facilities and shuttle service
There was only ONE car rental service available at the hotel which Im sure was exorbitant. We paid almost RM188 per day exluding insurance. The shuttle service from the hotel to town are at strange timings and simply not enough.

Good things:
1. The breakfast is still one of the best I've ever seen, with its own juice bar and daily changing menu
2. Facilities - The pool, spa, beach, various lounges lend a great ambience to a well-furnished hotel. I have zero complaints about the cleanliness and luxury of the rooms
3. The complimentary water, fruit and cookies left in the rooms after its been cleaned is a nice touch.

Overall, the Parkroyal is still a great place to stay for its luxury and convenience. However, the room prices (and everything else) have become ridiculously expensive. It would seem in their attempt to cater to a certain clientele, they have forgotten the needs of the rest of their guests. It's a shame becuase my gd memories have been sullied by my recent one. I may consider going back but it would have to take a pretty big discount on the room rates to get me there.

For the price paid, the size of the room and bed are small.

Check in took more than 30 min, that's a lot when guest is tired from travelling.

the breakfasts were wonderful - great being so close to the markets I thought the biscuits were a lovely touch - and the shampoos etc were great quality - the umbrellas were also a very nice touch

we especially liked the kids club facilities and pool with a slide, beach room was nice but small

Musty (damp) smell was the only complaint.

Excellant in every way

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at this hotel and we have already recommended it to others

The swimming pool should be open more than 8:00pm and limited food for breakfast types. no sandals

We were very happy with our choice in Penang - the Parkroyal is well located with nightmarkets and restaurants right outside the hotel. Two very good swimming pools with a great kids slide to keep children occupied. Breakfast was of a very high standard as were meals in the restaurant The family rooms at the Penang Parkroyal are very spacious - excellent for a family of four.

The public areas are lovely but the bar next to the foyer has the most UNCOMFORTABLE seating and the sound system for the entertainment is really poor. Suggest you upgrade and your guests will be happier to stay and have a drink! Dont like the fact that there arent any non-smoking rooms - our room smelt of cigarettes and so did the corridor as we walked to the room - not very good in this day and age. Also this is the only hotel we have stayed at in Asia that does not provide complimentary drinking water in the rooms - very poor.

Excellent hotel, friendly staff and good facilities I had a family suite and I was very impressed by the size of the room

The hotel was always good but with the recent revamping it was excellent. Service could not be bettered. The room was beautiful, clean and comfortable. New decor was extremely attractive.
