THE MAIN ATTRACTION FOR ME WAS THE HOTEL'S CENTRAL LOCATION, HOWEVER MY ROOM WITH HARBOUR VIEW WAS WELL APPOINTED AND VERY CLEAN. I PARTICULARLY LIKED THE COMFORTABLE BED. I WOULD STAY AT THE NOVOTEL AGAIN AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS.
Help staff
I travel a fair amount although this was my first trip to New Zealand. The hotel staff was very helpful especially the evening manager who provided very patient assistance to one of my traveling friends who can be quite exciteable.
I will come back
The reservations were all in order and the room was ready on my arrival just before noon. The front desk staff were courteous, gave me good directions for my meetings that afternoon, and the lunch just after my arrival was served quickly and hot. The hotel was quiet, the rooms comfortable and the drapes closed fully to make the room dark in the early morning sun. The wake-up call was on-time. The shower had good pressure, there was lots of hot water, and the breakfast was excellent. I will stay here again when I next come to Wellignton. My only complaint - no-one asked me if I was a member in a frequent stay program - nor was I offered details on membership. (This was the second Accor hotel I stayed at this trip - the first, near Hong Kong's new airport, didn't ask either.)

Reception staff were very average in their manner towards us - I usually experience a much friendlier style of welcome at hotel receptions. We had the situation of having prepaid, some time ago, but no longer had the need for all the rooms. I requested that we be given a credit for one room to be used the next night. We were told that under no circumstances could we change the original booking or receive a credit. I found this a very inflexible approach - certainly not encouraging me to use this hotel in the future. We were told by one staff member that there were no carparks available the night we arrived, yet were told by another staff member subsequently that of course we could have parked in the hotel park as there was always ample parking available. The fact that the carparking was charged for was also different from experiences at other hotels. In short, I am usually the last person to perceive discrimination in people's behaviour. However, none of our staff felt welcomed at this hotel - and I do wonder if that may have been due to our very multicultural mix and not particularly corporate dress? The decor was dated and uninspired - predominance given in the bar area to a large screen. Plate of cheese and biscuits was very ordinary and over-priced. I would not recommend this hotel to others - there are others in Wgtn which I have fel much more comfortable in.
An enjoyable stay in central Wellington
Having lived in Wellington many years ago, I was sure the Novotel on the Terrace would be a great location & it was even better than I hoped. We had easy access to Lambton Quay, the Cable Car (thus the wonderful Botanical Gdns), the TSB venue at Queens Warf for the WOW show (World of Wearable Art annual show). The staff were most helpful and obliging. The restaurant was very good & food very enjoyable. We were also easily able to walk to Queens wharf to take a harbor ferry ride that took us to Petone, Soames Island, Seatoun at the harbor mouth & back to central Wellington. We also had just a short walk to the Cuba Street block which was worth a lunch trip. A highly recommended hotel and a top location. D & S Marker
