exceeded my expectations

Recommendation:  by Ingrid Schoeppler

Suitable for: Leisure, Romance, Singles, Couples

I arrived around midnight at the hotel, and we got a room with one queen bed even though I requested 2 twin beds when I booked 3 weeks before. After complaining the next day, my daughter and I got the requested room with an even better panoramic view over the city. We stayed in the 7th floor with a great view.I also used the pool down stairs which was refreshing after exploring the city by foot all day. And this was the best about the hotel. The location is absolutly convenient, because we explored everything by walking.I would visit this hotel again, also very practical is the kitchenette where we prepared breakfast and some dinners, because Australia as beautiful it is,is very expensive. We enjoyed our stay very much

We stayed at this hotel for a week, and enjoyed every minute, the staff were so helpful and kind, the view from our room was spectacular, we did not have food, but cooked for ourselves in our adequate kitchen, ate dinner at great restaurants nearby, and shopped at the supermarket just over the road, buses practically at door but we walked everywhere, even downtown. we would definitely recommend this hotel, and hope to return. First time in Sydney

Recommendation:  by Gareth Robbins

Suitable for: Business, Families

Hotel staff were very helpful with all enquiries.

Did not get the room type that I had booked which initially was disappointing. Had spesifically asked and was guaranteed a Harbour View Room. But...was given a studio apartment which was spascious and practical for a family of 4. A much better alternative.

The hotel isn't located smack in the middle of the city, but a 15 minute stroll takes you to the botanical gardens and Sydney Opera house.
Bus stop 50 yards down the road.
Taxis drive past the hotel constantly.

Restaurants and shops just across the road.

If you need a hotel room for your family which is to be used as your basecamp and doesn't have to be right beside the sights, this hotel is just right.
Great value for money.

The hotel was in a first class position and the views of Sydney harbour were tremendous.
We found the room clean and ideal for our needs if a little on the small side.
The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble.
We would heartily recommend the Macleay Serviced Apartment Hotel.

An Enjoyable Stay

Recommendation:  by Keith Crockford

Suitable for: Business, Leisure, Romance, Families, Singles, Couples

We stayed in the Macleary apartments during our world trip; it provided very good value for money. The staff were excellent and very helpful; the service was also everything that you would expect for the price that you are paying.
You need to be on the upper floors (above the 6th), if a view of the harbour is important to you. The apartments are conveniently situated, although they are on the edge of the ‘Gay Quarter’, but this is not obtrusive. All cuisine’s available close bye with a complete range of prices to suit your budget in addition to supermarkets for self catering and many bars. Good services available for public transport (rail, bus and taxi), the apartments are within walking distance (20min) of the main harbour area, although it is uphill when you return. We would certainly visit the apartments again and recommend them.

When we arrived it was raining and the room that we were booked in had water pouring down the windows, down the wall and into the carpet and was 6 inches from the bed! When we rang the reception to say that this was the case the lady did not seem surprised and almost put out that we didnt want the room. We did get another room in the end which was dry thankfully. One thing thou, the small cook plate cords do not reach the power points, we had to keep pulling the bar frigde out to use the cooker, not only dangerous but very annoying. Can I suggest you put in an extenstion cord.
Location of this hotel is excellent and the veiw from our room 812 was fantastic.

The older gentleman Trevor is excellent in knowledge, attitude and service and was always pleasant and friendly. Some others not so good.

We did enjoy our stay thou in this wonderful city and was a fantastic honeymoon. We will be using this hotel again mainly because the location is excellent and the cost is pretty fair.

Bridge view

Recommendation:  by Susan Dray

Suitable for: Leisure

This hotel has amazing views of the Bridge and the Opera House. But if you want those you have to ask and book well in advance. Trust me though it is completely worth it! It is amazing waking up to that view every morning and it is incredible at night time as well!

Location wise it is excellant, the bus is cheap but it is also easy to walk to the Opera House, to the city and is only about a 45 min walk to Darling Harbour.

I would definitely stay here again.

Recommendation:  by Mark Cranage

Suitable for: Leisure, Couples

The staff were very friendly and very ablidging.
A central location for looking around Sydney with a bus being less than two miinures walk from the hotel.
Has a Woolworths supermarket across the road.
Has hi speed internet access available.
The room was a bit on the small size.
I will use this hotel again.

Macleay Apartments

Recommendation:  by Stephen Welch

Suitable for: Couples

Have just stayed 4 nights in the apartments with my wife and 2 sons. The hotel is in an excellent position, being some 10 minutes walk from the botanical gardens and from there onto the Opera house and Circular Key. Potts Point is a very laid back area.

The reception staff were helpful and friendly.

However, the room was Very small, basically a small double with 2 extra beds, so although you do have cooking facilities, this was impossible to use, other than for breakfast, so think twice if, like us, there are 4 of you. The rooms really are only doubles.

Also remember that Potts Point adjoins Kings Cross, which, at night time, can become somewhat leud and not the place for children !

Our Last Minute Cheapest We Could Find Stay

Recommendation:  by Louis Lim

Suitable for: Leisure, Singles

Dealing with a family of four, this was available and the cheapest accomodation that we could find last minute (2 weeks before arrival). This was our first visit to Australia in general. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable with our questions about transportation in the city and other misc things tourist needed to know, or if they didn't know then they would ask the right people themselves. We didn't know that we were right next to a red light district where we would always walk through to get to a rail station, but the red light district didn't seem to have any harrassing random strangers so it was tolerable. In terms of the positive things about the location, there was a supermarket very conviently across the street, post office a couple blocks away, many restaurants scattered throughout, King's Cross rail station close by and a few bus stops close by too. Oh and lots of shops that sell the same, typical tourist soverniers for the cheapest prices possible compared to the expensive counterparts in the actual tourist hotspots.

We stayed there for 4 days from the 26th-30 Jul the location was great easy access to all the sights, the staff were friendly and helpful. The only concern we had were the type of people that hang around the kings cross station, although no one ever bothered us. The room was cleaned daily and fresh towels everyday, the extra for the view was well worth it, never seen a sunrise like it. M. Smith Edinburgh Bonnie Scotland

As this was my first visit to Sydney I was pleasantly surprized with the access to public transport. The room was more then adequate, escprecially the ironing board and iron. The view from both our rooms was stupendous, watching the sun rise andst over the bay and the bridge was a real treat. My one problem was the parking. Although I appreciated the garage availablity the entrance/exit was very small. Also when we were directed to the parking area we were not told there would be an extra parking charge of 45 dolars for our two nights. We visited the Thai restaurant and were not disappointed, the food was delicious. he Woolworths just across the road was very handy as well. The Bay side room was difficulct to keep warm, even with the heater on unless the curtains were kept closed, thus excluding the view. Bathroom facilities were clean and spacious. I recommend this hotel to any traveller.

Reasonable value for money but building generally in need of updating. Less easy to access from the city on foot once the Botanical Gardens close at 6pm Generally ok butin need of modernisation

Reception staff were friendly, knowledgable and helpful. Potts Point is an attractive & cosmopolitan area. Good range of restaurants & transport and near enough to walk to all of the tourist attractions - plus a big but unobtrusive supermaket opposite hotel. We moved'up' to the 7th floor from 3rd - well worth the extra money for the incredible breakfast views - Bridge,Opera House and Elizabeth Bay!Room met our needs as a busy tourist -totally adequate.
