Hotels in Kuah Town – Lack of beach and nightlife, the town of Kuah has plenty of budget friendly hotels scattered throughout the town. Almost all public facilities and major attractions are within walking distance from these hotels. Most of these hotels provide clean and decent rooms, basic amenities and toiletries. You may not find many amenities in the hotels because of space constrain and the rows of shops and restaurants in entire Kuah town and that is not an issue at all here since most restaurants in the town serves delicious local dishes. If you prefer Western then head on to a bit pricey restaurants in shopping malls or to any Western-styled cafes in the town. Read More

Not what you're looking for?

Dining is quite cheap and alcohol is cheaper here than any part of Malaysia but be wary, each visitor can only carry one bottle of alcohol when leaving, you'll have to pay hefty fine or leave the extra bottle at the airport should you're found carrying more. Apart from alcohols, Kuah town has the most shops in Langkawi, selling almost everything from cheap trinkets up to luxury watches, all without duty tax. High-end shops are the main attraction for locals because at other part of Malaysia, luxury items are imposed up to sixty percent of tax, and this has turned Langkawi into a shopping haven.

There are many other attractions apart from shopping malls and streets, which is just few minutes of travelling. Most hotels have tour guide service or contacts, its advisable to get one as these guides can plan for you the best tour route and places in no time, rather than you cracking your head thinking it out.

Kuah Town – Kuah is the district capital and the largest town in Langkawi. It is also the entry point for ferries from Kuala Kedah, Penang mainland or Kuala Perlis where Kuala Perlis is the nearest. Kuah town developed encircling the jetty, resulting in most of the main attractions and buildings are nearer to the jetty. It gets less developed as you travel further away from the jetty. Locals crowd Kuah town because of its shopping malls and luxury item outlets, considering the fact that luxury items are very cheap compared to mainland.

One of the first attractions you'll see when coming out from the jetty is the Dataran Lang or the Eagle Square, the most prominent landmark that greets visitors who arrive by sea. This 12-metres tall magnificent reddish brown eagle statue in pre-flight pose has become the identity of Langkawi, where is symbolises the name of Langkawi, 'Lang' stands for eagle and 'batu Kawi' stands for brown rock. The square is a landscaped area with ponds, terraces and bridges, making it a nice place to take a stroll and admire the view of the sea.

Next you should visit the Taman Lagenda or Legends Garden, located within walking distance from the jetty. It's a 50 hectares recreational park built on a reclaimed land, filled with flowering gardens, fruit trees, pathways and ponds, and seventeen sculptures depicting Langkawi's myths and legends. Adding to it, there are four artificial lakes and a man-made beach to complement the picturesque scenery. qNDespite having wide range of hotels, Kuah don't have much of a night life except eating out in seafood restaurants and relaxing over a hot drink in roadside stall while watching late night movies. Though there are a few bars and pubs located in some of the hotels, but not as trendy and lively as clubs and party towns.
