Not what you're looking for?
City Centre - As the capital city of Sabah, a popular holiday destination in Malaysia, Kota Kinabalu is not as busy or hectic as the other cities in the country. The city centre itself is quite a small area and you can actually walk from one end to another with the hour. It's quite an easy living here and you can really feel that it is a green city with the natural habitat just around the city outskirts. With it located on the waterfront, it's just great to sit by the seaside and enjoy the scenery. There are, of course, places to go and see such as the Atkinson Clock Tower that's located minutes away on a hill beside Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.
For an amazing view of the city centre, take a short hike up the hill to the Signal Hill Observatory. However, one of the more popular destinations in the city centre is the Kota Kinabalu Handicraft Market or also known as 'Pasar Filipino'. This is the best place to bargain for cultured pearls, handicraft, beads and crystals. It's a good place to stock up on your souvenir items but be sure to haggle for the best price. If you're in Kota Kinabalu on a Sunday, try to make your way to Gaya Street Tamu or Sunday Market. Here you'll get to enjoy the local delicacies and even go away with more souvenir items. There are, of course, modern shopping malls selling generic brands.
