We requested 3 rooms on the same floor as 2 families spending the weekend together - 2 of the rooms were to be adjoining this was not the case. 1 room was completely unstayable in as the air conditioning was not serviceable and room was like a sauna - despite 3 requests to get sorted during the day on the Friday this was not taken care of while we were out of the hotel. On gettting back to the room at 11.30 at night we had a note to contact desk to be tols that there was nothing that could be done for the rest of the weekend, we then had to pack up and move to a floor above which we were not happy with as our teenagers were left on the floor on their own. We did get some assistance eventusally to move bags along, and all the staff memeber was interested in was what we had consumed out of the mini bar - no offer of any compensation whatsoever for the inconvenience or hassle which is very poor on the hotels part. Our other room was not serviced by 3pm in the afternoon so my children returned to have a nap to find room had not been cleaned and new towels put in. The hotel itself is in a great location, appreciate it waas a busy weekend but my husband travels frequnetly and the hotel is used by his comapny and it did not create a good impression at all regarding quality of service.

I very much appreciated the willingness of the staff to recommend local attractions. As a single woman visiting the city for the first time I found the central location to be particularly appealing as it is walking distance from most attractions. I would suggest that the hotel advise guests of its nearness to the gardens and the city walking tours so that I could have been better prepared for a walk. I would stay at this hotel again. I particularly appreciated the bathtub and the possibility of soaking in a tub to rest my weary bones.

An excellent hotel in all respects and the location is si handy - straight off and on the motorway but do clarify the car parking when you book. We thought it was free but found it was $18 per night. Otherwise highly recommended.

The selection and quality of food at breakfast, in particular, was very good.

There is a notice in the bathroom about hanging the towels up if you don't want them washed (for ecology reasons), but although we hung them up they were changed anyway. No point in having the notice really.

The access to Lambton Quay via the lift is a very big plus for the Hotel.

All in all a pleasant stay.

Excellent location and clean comfortable room for three people.

Staff were generally courteous except one lady (who is a little bit taller than the others) at the reception who was a bit up her nose when she talked to me (not a very good reception when you drove six hours and be greeted like that). Lucky she was off the next day and I didn't see her again. The other receptionists were polite and courteous. The valet parking guys were all very good and worthy of praise.

Overall, a good pleasurable stay in a good location. Whitby's was closed at the time - missed the sumptious breakfast everyone was talking about in their reviews.

There was a temporary dining room.
The hot food was cold at breakfast.
We skipped breakfast on the last morning as we could not face it again.

The rest was fine.

We were staying in Wellington as part of a 3 week tour of Australia and New Zealand and had booked at James Cook to break up our journey between North and South Islands. It turned out to be one of the most comfortable and pleasant hotel visits of our entire trip - with lovely buffet food, courteous staff and more than comfortable rooms. I would highly recommend this hotel.

staff were very friendly and profesional, maybe needs a little updating decor wise need to optimise the view from the bed... would be better if the bed was facing out to the habour?

Central, well-appointed and comfortable. Recommended. Comfortable and attractive. A very pleasant place to stay.

A sauna/spa room would have been good. The gym was small in size and in terms of equipment. Width of bed was fine but length wise was not long (don't stay in Hotels much so that may be standard?)

All staff we met were very obliging, efficient and friendly. Everything we needed was provided.

Pillows on bed could be more comfortable.
