Enjoyed the stay - hotel a bit like me - aged and needing a facelift. Facilities were pretty good considering the age of the hotel. Bathrooms a bit tatty around the edges, and could do with a refurbishment. Bed was comfortable, linen clean and fresh. Didn't check out the in room bar, so cannot comment on that. Close to the facilities I was visiting. Obviously there is no way to control the noise from late night/early morning revellers, so just had to go with that and got to sleep around 3.00 am but was able to sleep late till 8.00 am - this probably wouldn't worry a romantic couple, or a leisurely stay, but business, families etc could find it a bit noisy. Car park was great, but lucky I had a small car and was able to squeeze into the last space against the far wall. Staff were great and very helpful - loved the cleaning lady on level 5 - had a bit of a laugh with her. The rate was reasonable and I would probably stay again. Unfortunately cannot comment on food as I didn't eat in. Thanks again.
Location, location location
Great location for the price. Staff were very helpful.

The hotel is old but age can be disguised. The room had a good feel but the front desk, lobby, lift etc are all tatty and looking worse for wear. Staff were pleasant and polite but service only average. I live in Japan and am used to smart service and no delays. Perhaps I'm spoilt. Checking in whilst waiting for a difficult customer in front took some time. There were no spare staff to help alleviate the back log. A typical problem in NZ these days in their efforts to economize and improve profits (Share holders mow important than Customer "American" syndrome). Calling the front desk, they took an eternity to answer. Location great. A random fire alarm took the staff by surprise. They did not seem confident in their efforts to clear the building. Car Park ticket wicket dislodged from ground when inserting ticket. Not a good look! Toilet seat loose. Lift hand rail loose. Maintenance man definitely not on the ball. Might stay again due mainly to location. Ken.......
- At these days, internet access is a must for most customers, and charging for it is really not pleasant. Besides, you are charging it really expensive... Really not good for business, neither mine neither yours... This comment applies for the 3 Holliday Inn hotels I stayied (Auckland, Suva and Santiago). - Bath is one of the great points on a stay. You have really lovely rooms, but the towels are far away to be pleasant... If you want to avoied it to be stolen, there are smartest ways to make it. BR.
My biggest disppointment was not having wireless connection in my room. Instead I had to go downstairs with a lot of other people. Cleaner was a bit late in cleaning the room.
Great view!
Compared to the Copthorne I stayed at in Christchurch. This hotel was pretty ragged. The features of the room were clearly worn and aged.

Service, particularly breakfast and dinner was rather chaotic. Staff willing but evident lack of management.
