On arrival the receptionist completely ignored us. I said Hello in a bright and friendly manner and she looked up from what she was doing as if i was interrupting her and went back to what she was doing. I went up to the desk and said who we were and that we would like to check in and she said she was busy. She then realised she should perhaps help us and curtly said which room we were in with the bathrooms in the corridor. I was quite upset to learn that I had not booked en-suite - my mistake I actually did not know that in this day and age there were hotels where you have to share a toilet and shower with other guests. The room itself was very small and a bit shabby. I tried to find out how many people we would be sharing the bathrooms with but she couldn't tell me. She then told me that I had to pay up front. I said that I would pay on departure and she started to get upset and say that she would have the money taken from her wages if I did not pay. I said she already had my card details and was beginning to get quite upset with her whole attitude and the disappointment at the room. She began to get upset and I was furious at this attempt to make me feel guilty and sorry for her. I said I would go for a walk and come back. When I returned a new lady was on reception who was very kind, helpful, and explained everything. We stayed and the room was fine for our short visit and for the price. Breakfast the next morning - the restaurant was full from 7.30 onwards. I kept going back to see if there was a table and it was completely full with a queue. Eventually a table became free and the waitress told me we were too late as it was now ten past nine. I pointed out why we were late and we were given breakfast with a reduced choice. One other thing was that we came by car and the first receptionist gave us vague directions to the car park saying there were two and not to go in one of them. We could only find one and the car park assistant said we were in the right one but when we collected the car the voucher given to me was not for that car park. Having got all that off my chest the hotel is what to expect for the price. The location was excellent and the food was good. Good service costs nothing and I think if the hotel advertises itself clearly for what it is, it will attract the right customers and be very successful. I was not comfortable using a shared bathroom down the corridor and I wasn't comfortable letting my daughter go on her own in the middle of the night. I hope these comments are useful.

Free internet access was a real plus. We used it every day. This was an excellent hotel. It was $80 cheaper than the Harlingford next door with better amenities.

The bathroom vas very small. That drove down my "points" and there vas very cool in the rom. We got a heater when we asked for o it. Thats OK.

GOOD ENGLISH BREAKFAST BATHROOM TOO OLD AND SMALL

Appreciated the internet connection in the public area. Very friendly staff. Good breakfast. Poor radio/TV reception/chanel availability. However, as it wasn't important, did not report until checkout.

Room was too warm. Didn't feel comfortable leaving window open at night because on lower level. Would be good idea to install some way to lock window part way open.

Overall, the hotel provided a quality experience. The main drawback is lack of night staff. The room was larger than many. It was clean and comfortable.

The hotel staff were extremely well informed, helpful, and courteous - this is an upgrade from my last visit to the George, when some staff were not so helpful or friendly. Travelers could be given more information re rooms: some are better than others, and given a choice, I would have paid more for a slightly larger, front facing room.

Excellent "full English" breakfast. Good value in a city of expensive hotels. Location is excellent.

Hotel was ok, but the room in the cellar was disappointment The room was situated under ground and smelld like a cellar.

There was someone at the front desk when I checked in but never after that...so no one to complain to about the problems in the room nor in the morning when I left Room was in poor condition, upper window impossible to close, closet handles fall off when opened, shower hose broken and difficult to operate

Carpets were not Clean throughout the hotel and water leakage through our room caused the ceiling to fall on the floor below. We were requested to move to another room. The manager only refunded 10% of our bill which was insufficient for the condition of our room and discomfort caused.

Very annoyed that a taxi was not ordered as I requested. I asked to book one the night before and was told I'd get one easily in the morning. However there were none available in the morning and as I had an exam to get to, walking half a mile in the rain with my bags was exactly what I didn't want to do.. Good sized room esp for single person. bit disappointed with en-suite facilities though.
