- Almost same price & star grading but I feel Swissotel Merchant Court better. - Feel facilities quite old. - King Size Bed big enough. - No telephone available at Toilet - General, still comfortable.
My stay at the Furama
Since it was our first time to Singapore, I don't regret booking at the Furama City Center. MRT station was just across the street (a big big plus), as was Chinatown. The Esplanade was within walking distance. We got around to most of Singapore through just the MRT. The rooms are a bit pricey (but nice) for me (S$270 at peak and no breakfast) and somebody kept getting my morning papers. I also had to call the hotel after our stay (read: long distance) when they forgot to release the floating charge imposed on my card at check-in. This should have been automatic. The hotel staff, however, made up for whatever inconvenience that created. They acted swiftly (thanks to Miguel).
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The staff were very courteous and helpful. One in particular went out of her way to give us directions to things we wished to see. The room was clean, comfortable and larger than some we have paid more for. The location is very convenient and the bustle of Chinatown almost on the doorstep was good. The Metro system is very conveniently located and a state of the art system that is very easy to use.
Furama Hotel
I have been to Singapore for business or pleasure a dozen or more times. It has now become an annual family pilgrimage to spend at least one week in this lovely country with its clean streets and wonderful people. If only the whole world was like this! In recent years I have always stayed at Furama City Centre because of its excellent location particularly for a leisure & shopping trip. For general shopping, People's Park is literally on the doorstep and the hotel is not far from Funan for computer & technical equipment. Chinatown is just round the corner and always enjoyable to visit. For trips further afield, Chinatown MRT is just across the road. For eating out Clarke Quay & Boat Quay are just a stroll away while the hotel's Chinese restaurant is excellent in the evening. The bar and tea shop are also very good. The Room Service menu is a bit limited but requests were dealt with very efficiently and the food quality was top class. The room decor is looking a bit dated and furniture & fittings are not exactly brand new, but everything is clean and in good working order. Mini bar prices are a bit over the top, but this seems to be the norm in the industry nowadays. Room size is adequate for a couple but if sharing with kids, the executive rooms or family rooms are best. The staff are first class and could not be more helpful. This praise is universal from top to bottom: everyone makes you feel at home and cannot do enough to help throughout the stay and even beyond. On separate occassions, my daughter left behind a pair of much-loved shoes while my wife managed to leave her purse full of credit cards. Both items were restored ti their grateful owners quickly and efficiently.
Excellent Service
The Furama City Centre is a very good value hotel. Staff are so helpful and pleasant and all services are excellent particularly the lovely concierge. Breakfast is very good we are Australian and loved trying the Asian dishes as well as traditional things. All facilities are very good. Hotel is very close to Chinatown which is a must to explore. Decor is a tad dated but quite subdued and easy on the eye. Rooms very comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel!

Hotel was good but a little bit too expensive for the amenities it offered. Room was clean and a good size. Big minus, no breaktfast included in room price, it shoud have been included at the rate we paid.
The food varities is not good. You should have some more food varieties
