Situated very near to many good local restaurants/ eateries. It is also convenient and near to city as it has local buses.

This is my 1st time staying at Evergreen Laurel Hotel Penang! Location wise is its convenience as it is situated along Gurney Drive where Penang foods can easily be found! The breakfast was good and the hotel offers lots of choices to choose! Hope to stay there again in my nest visit!

THE HOTEL IS CONVENIENTLY LOCATED. IT HAS A NICE SEA VIEW AS WELL AS WALKING DISTANCE - ABOUT 15 MINUTES TO GURNEY PLAZA OR GURNEY DRIVE...

I turned up at 2pm and the 2 rooms, we booked, were not ready for us to check-in. One room was ready ~2.30pm and the 2nd room was only ready after 4pm. This was not good because we drove from Singapore to Penang all the day and were very tired, and did not have the room to freshen up. Hotel should have done more to compensate for our disappointment upon check-in.

I find the Evergreen Laurel is a good hotel to stay especially with the family. Its location is excellent and the hotel is clean with very cordial staff. Every time I visit Penang I would stay here and will continue to do so.

This is the 1st time I & my family members have the apportunity to stay in this hotels after 15 years. (Note: When I'm visiting Butterworth, without family members, I alway stay with my relatives or friends in Butterworth) Overall the hotel met my expectation. As you may aware, most of Singaporean like to compare the hotel(s) they stay with Singapore standard, whenever they were abord. As for me & my family members, they like the hotel atmosphere and also the location of the hotel, easy access to local foods. There was a lot of local hawker food like char kway teow, penang hakkien mee and asam laksa we must have it during the stay. We visit the Gurney Plaza as it was heavy downpour on the night we arrived. We found out that there was a lot of familiar food outlet there where we can find it in Singapore. Once again, my family really enjoy the short stay in Penang and I'm sure that we will be staying in the same hotel in our future visit.

Our third stay at this hotel for this year. Special mention to Farrah and Rachael at reception for exceptional service provided to us everytime that we visit. Concierge service is rather poor though. Staff manning the desk seems to be rather reluctant in performing their duties. Bell boys do a great job. Always helpful. Highly recommended hotel.

We had a good time here. Location was good. Near to shopping area.

Hotel is conveniently located within reach of town and good eating outlets.

Service was pretty good at reception. Only gripe was that they did not have the room ready when we arrived. Had to wait till 4pm before we could get checked in. Otherwise it was a good place to stay.

I have great time when I spent my weekend holiday in Evergreen Hotel. It is great location for my family member and freinds to reach those amazing food stalls and shopping mall (Gurney Plaza) where just walking distance!I will sure back to the same hotel if I have chance to visit Penang again!

Generally ok hotel. Excellent value.

Would recommend it to all. It is good for business or family visits. Hotel staff friendly, rooms are clean and adequate, The lounge combo was a bit too loud and the music was adequate.

My sister has requested that I booked another hotel which she and her family stayed during their previous visit in Dec 2007. This hotel is around the same price as Evergreen-Laurel and also located not far from it.

After some checks in the internet, I believed that Evergreen-Laurel should be a much better choice and thus, proceed to book this hotel for my sister and her family (1 unit for 3 nights).

My sister : Wonderful seaview from the room, excellent staff service...pleasantly surprised to have free-apples (about 3 per day) provided in her room !

My bro-in-law : Breakfast is good !

My nephew (17-year-old) : Room-size/cleanliness is good. Love the Plasma-TV !

My niece (9-year-old) : The hotel is nice !


On my part, I am happy that I have make a right recommendation and they enjoyed themselves !

The hotel staff is helpful,even those i rode motocycle there ,the staff let me have a parking lot .
Breadfast was goood.

Only one negative comment about the hotel is our experience in Laurel Cafe for breakfast.

We were at b'fast at 7am. We surveyed the layout and was contented with the spread, which was more than sufficient but not exceptional.

The 'eggs corner' was literally at a corner, hidden. Only the wafers were visible. I wanted to have some omlette and all I saw were wafers instead. Disappointed and I uttered some words referring 'no omlette?'. (I thought that the eggs corner was also serving wafers and so I thought they ran out of eggs - ha, ha). The staff there must be totally uninitiated, as they did not volunteer to inform that the eggs counter is just next to it (I found that out later).

The staff also did not clear the plates when we finished each serving and we have to pile them up on the table. They were finally taken away after some time.

There was one staff that seem to be still sleeping.

pleasant stay & staff were friendly. Our departure happaned to be at 2200hrs but we have to check out at 12 noon. would appreciate if time could be extended, But reception manager/staff allowed our bags to be kept in front desk and also allowed us to use 2nd level to re-freshen up prior to our departure. Definitily would return to your hotel if we visit Penang

I had service problems in the restaurant. But, Andy, a manager, stepped in and handled my issues very well. Every business has problems. A company should be judged by how they handle the problems. Andy handled the problems very professionally and service after that was great.

This hotel are located in good place. Have a nice bayview by just step out from the main entrance of the hotel. Good place for couple. :) More, there are the most clound place at the night, there have more than 30 stalls of foods n it near to the gurney plaza. That is good news for shopper ha. Hahaha..... nice for me too!! Ya .. for those are interested to have a drink there have bar lounge in the hotel or next door of the hotel. There are very convenience for all the traveler n shopper.

The hotel staffs were help me when i asked n told them my problem. It was let me feel good n comfort to stay in this hotel. I will choose this hotel again if i visit to Penang Island again. ;)

This hotel is located along the Gurney Drive with sea front promenade, it is easily accessible to the city's business district, historic spots, shopping areas and entertainment night spots. A perfect setting for business and leisure.

But room is small, food made my requirement, anyway i will recommend to my friend.

I recently stayed at the Evergreen Laurel in Penang as I was on vacation. The Hotel, generally speaking is OK...nothing to write home about though ! If your thinking of going to Penang for relaxation / vacation then you need to stay Bitu Ferringhi as Penang is just mainly a Business / commercial area. If your going there to play Golf as I did, then your really wasting your time and you will be much better off staying around KL as there are quite a few magnificent courses there...Saujana (Boga Raya course and Palm), Tropicana and KLGCC (Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club. All great courses, particularly Saujana (watch out for the Monkeys though, they'll steal the shoe laces form your Golf Shoes !!) and cheap.

i can highly recommend this hotel,the staff were always helpful and polite,nothing was to much trouble for them.the food was always very good and well presented
and price wise we couldn't complain.the hotel is located out of the townbut this is what we wanted,this gave us the option of peace and quiet and the hustle of the town when we wanted it.nice little taxi across from the hotel,very easy to arrange taxi for how ever long you wanted him for and they would stay as long as you needed but remember to get price first.always a tuk tuk around to go into town.it was just as easy to walk but if it was hot,why bother.surprised hotel only has 3 stars.we will goback when next in thailand.
