Bayview Chateau Tongariro sits majestically at the base of Mount Ruapehu, right in the midst of Dual World Heritage Tongariro National Park. Tongariro Notional Park is a dual world heritage area. There are famous walks during summer such as the World famous Tongariro Crossing, trout fishing (river and lake) and on land activities. During winter, the hotel is only 15 minutes drive from Whakapapa Ski area, the largest in New Zealand and on the doorstep of New Zealand's volcanic plateau playground.

Getting to the hotel is very easy. The hotel is situated 6kms up State Highway 48 and is within easy reach of New Zealand's two largest cities, Auckland and Wellington. The flight time from Auckland International Airport to Taupo is approximately one hour. From distance driving time for Taupo is 100 km 1.25 hours, Auckland is 360 km 4.5 hours, Wellington is 350 km 4 hours and National Park Train Station is 18 km 15 minutes.
