International Kite Festival is an annual event held every July where traditional Balinese giant kites up to 10 metres in length are made and flown competitively by teams from different villages around Bali. Those days, it is believed as a ritual to send message to the Hindu Gods to bless their village with abundant crops and harvests. Another important attraction is the Pura Blanjong or Blanjong Temple. The temple houses a major an important artefact, an inscription on a stone pillar called the Prasati Blanjong. It tells of a Javanese king who visited Bali in the 10th century and formed what was probably Bali's first formal government. The stone inscription is Bali's oldest known artefact to date.
