Adding to that, certain low level rooms and apartments that faces the wharf would get some price reduction should there be any ship berthed during the stay due to its loud irritating sirens. Thus, visitors are strongly advised to check prior booking those rooms to avoid cruise passengers to stare right inside the room while getting down the ship.
Prince's Wharf - Formerly a fully operational commercial wharf on the Auckland waterfront, Prince's Wharf which was built in 1924 now has been redeveloped into a high rise upper scale mixed use development and cruise ship terminal, with the new buildings designed to resemble a ship. Again the wharf was redeveloped to add new functions to certain part of the wharf which was under-used, thus the Overseas Passenger Terminal was renovated including a hotel, various restaurants as well as apartments, office space and a multi-story parking building.
Princes Wharf also contains luxury residence built for one of the wharf's developers famed for being the largest apartment in terms of size in New Zealand. However, a number of the hotel apartments like many buildings constructed in the early 90s are having issues with weather durability and as of this year, many have undergone substantial maintenance works. The development also includes a first-floor viewing decks at the 'prow end' of the wharf.
