Ellerslie - Ellerslie is a largely residential suburban city best known for Auckland's main horse racing course, Ellerslie Racecourse and for being the original site of the Ellerslie International Flower Show, an annual garden show now moved to Christchurch at Hagley Park in 2008. The show, which started in 1994, has attracted over 65,000 visits during the five days in which it is open to the public
The race course, built in 1886 remained at the very same place till today. The racecourse had its own railway station for race days, and strongly characterised the local area up until its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s. Another notable sports centre not far from here is the Eden Park, the biggest sports arena in New Zealand with capacity of 50,000 seating.
Ellerslie also hosts many international exhibitions and shows in its own exhibition centre, the ASB Showground.
