Decor of the hotel is unique, hung with beautiful and fascinating current art works. Staff always polite and helpful. This is Calgary as sophisticated rather than redneck oil town. As a conversion from an old Holiday Inn, the room and balcony size remain standard. The new fittings and decor are another matter; these are stylish and luxurious. A large bed, the finest linen, designer furniture, dark paint, a draped wall, faux orchids, dark leather bed skirt and headboard, and flat screen tv, all make the room exceptional and chic. But things go amiss in the bathroom. The walls, floor and counter are, in contast, white marble tiles. Looks great at first, but the porous material stains and is gradually acquiring an unpleasant patina. The tub is of poor quality and the drain did not function. We also could not turn off the noisy inroom air conditioning unit nor open the patio doors because of outide noise from the street and air unit of the hotel. We eventually called the desk at two in the morning, and althought the response was prompt and polite, it was ineffectual. The rooms need better upkeep. Small chips in the dark paint revealed white plaster. Small thing, but details are important with this much emphasis on style. A bit like a loose thread on an Armani jacket.
