How in my recent travels around NZ I made mention
of Hotel SO to many tourists and Taxi Drivers

Excellent location and value. Would recommend to any single or "close" couple who can accept a very small room with no window/view and minimum room/linen service. The common lounge and kitchen are an appreciated plus. Decor throughout is very well done.

I was disappointed not to have an outside window - the full wall mirror opposite the door did nothing to enhance the room.

The toilet amenities were "different" but interesting!

I was also totally un-impressed with a cardboard cup out of which I was expected to drink coffee! And two sachets of coffee for a three night stay was totally inadequate - but I survived!

Staff were exceptional - nothing was too much trouble - so I would definitely recommend Hotel So to friends.

I did not bring a camera so I took no photos. Sorry!

Great concept as a Hotel, for a Upmarket Single Bagpacker or a Single guest. The Rooms are Small especially for an international traveller who would normally have a Large suitcase.

Its a Great Location.Not a Great palce to stay for a couple as the Rooms are small.

What a lovely surprise! A large bed, looking very comfortable, with large and small pillows and a soft but very warm cover, awaited me. It was suspended, or seemed to be, above the floor, like it was floating on the blue light which emanated from underneath it. To help with my jet lag, I was told. I put my suitcases underneath it - there was heaps of room - then I couldn't wait any longer, I dived onto the bed, watched the beautiful scenery and listened to the stress-reducing music on the TV. All my worries seemed to dissolve and I floated away on the white cloud of the bed cover.

The other people staying there were thoughtful, quiet and respectful. I think this place attracts the "thinkers" in life, who know that where they choose to stay DOES make a difference.

Yeah! Let's support Hotel So because it not only contributes to our inner peacefulness but also leaves a more gentle footprint on the planet.

Hotel So was certainly unique - the smallest hotel room I've ever seen, but the storage facilities were quite clever. The bed was really comfortable and air con was appropriate. The mood lighting could make for some fun! Sky TV and free email access were bonuses. A bit more space and quieter foyer area would improve the experience, but this is still a hotel I'd recommend. Great central location and reasonable price!

room is small by U.S. standards,but quite adequate. Suggest strongly that little things like soap/shampoo etc. be available. Mood lighting was nice but brightness control would help. Shower was great but could be larger even for those of us that are of average size (5'10",170 lbs) and better for a twosome! Outside noises from a too loud local disco were biggest problem at 2 in the morning! Maybe whitenoise generator would help. Great hotel idea that only needs a little polish. Service was good, food was very good.

The size of our room was far to small for two adults. The bathroom had no room for dressing meaning you had to move onto the carpet to get dressed. The room had a claustrophic feeling with no windows.
I like an ironing board in my room rather that having to take ironing to an ironing room. More hanging space is also needed for leisure.
I would recommend this hotel for business travellers rather than leisure.
The staff certainly were very friendly and helpful.

The hotel is very well located close to the centre of Christchurch.
The staff were courteous and helpful on check-in and departure.
We had one of the inside rooms i.e. no windows but adequate ventilation/air conditioning. The room is very small with access to the bed from only one side. Luggage needs to be stored under the bed - particularly with 2 people sharing.
We didn't eat in the hotel.
One of the more interesting aspects is the mood lighting with gradual "sunrise" wake-up lighting for a gentle wake-up call ( and "sundown" lighting to lull you to sleep).
All in all - an experience!

ONLY COMPLAINT WE HAVE IS WITH THE SIZE OF STANDARD ROOM. NOT SUITABLE FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE - WHEN WE BOOKED WE DID NOT KNOW THAT THE BED WAS UP AGAINST THE WALL, VERY AWKWARD FOR PEOPLE HAVING TO GET UP DURING THE NIGHT CLIMBING OVER ONE ANOTHER.
SUGGEST THAT PEOPLE SHOULD BE ADVISE3D THAT STANDARD ROOMS ARE REALLY ONLY FOR SHORT TERM VISITS AND NOT ELDERLY FOLK.
NEXT TIME IF BOOKING WITH THE hOtEL SO WE WOULD DEFINITELY WANT A LARGER ROOM. OTHERWISE EVERYTHING ELSE Was first class, the staff very polite and helpful.

I stayed at Hotel SO in Christchurch on both Feb 20 and 28, and had a very positive experience both times. I had researched the hotel, so knew that it was a new, modern, "stylish" hotel, but with small and compact rooms. This suited my needs just fine, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in.

The hotel amenities like free internet were great, and the ambiance and service were very good as well. If the room size works for your situation, I would highly recommend Hotel SO; a unique and very economical place to stay.

The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean and tidy.
However noise from outside sources was a problem for us and light streaming through the window early in the morning was not at all welcome, we could not rectify this even with the shades drawn.

The hotel is located to all of Christchurch's amenities and the shopping district, coming from a rural background this was not important to us as it would be to City Slickers.

The whole ambience of the hotel was unusual but this was done to achieve relaxation for the guests. The hotel would be ideal for people travelling for business purposes.

We'd booked Hotel So to ensure we had somewhere central in Christchurch - and we weren't disappointed. Check-in was efficient and staff very helpful. Quirky and well equipped rooms were good. However they were small and, disappointingly not mentioned on the website booking, had no windows. It was therefore hard to determine the time of day ..... without venturing down 3 floors and out into the street. But we were well aquainted with the trip down to reception because on 5 occasions or electronic room keycards failed to work and we had to ask these to be reset - a very annoying experience which the hotel must fix and soon!!

If the above is sorted out this is a very worthwhile place to stay.

The Hotel is well located for the centre of Christchurch.

Found the hotel to be very modern and clean with very helpful staff.

I had a problem with the hotel being unable to store my cases after checkout until we had to leave for the airport. The staff were helpful in directing me to a storage facility but it was 5-10 minutes walk and it would be very inconvenient for older people.

I also found it strange that you charged for room cleaning service. We were advised about it at check in but I do think it should be included in the price. This obviously is not an issue if you only stay 1 night!!

If you are looking for an unconventional hotel with interesting decor and facilities then you will not be disappointed!

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel So was excellent, clean good value for money. Close to all ameanaties. Would stay again if it was a short stay because of limited space in room. Althougth the hotel facilities were first class.
